How Do I Borrow Library Materials?

  • All materials are borrowed (checked out) at the Circulation Desk (on your left as you enter library).

  • Your LAVC ID card is your library card.

  • Don't have a LAVC ID card? You can also borrow materials using the following:

    • Your student ID number (or employee ID number) plus

      • One of the following official photo ID cards (physical or digital photo of same):

        • Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, California ID, passport)

        • LACCD Photo ID card (from any LACCD college)

        • Student ID card with photo from another higher education institution

        • High school ID card with photo.

  • LAVC faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students may borrow up to 10 items at a time.

How Do I Return Library Materials?

  • During open hours, return items to the Circulation Desk.
  • When the Library is closed, you can use either the drop slot in the wall by our front door or the grey "Books" drop box on the West side of the LARC building by the 2 10-minute parking spots.
  • Each person who borrows an item is responsible for returning that item, undamaged and on time.

What Can I Borrow and For How Long?

LAVC faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students may borrow up to 10 items at a time.

Lost Items

  • Long overdue items will be considered lost and you will be charged a replacement fee for each item.
  • Unreturned items and unpaid fees will prevent you from requesting, renewing, or checking out additional material.
  • To remove the block and fee(s) from your account you may do one of the following
    • Return the item(s)
    • Provide an acceptable replacement copy (this option available for lost LAVC books only)
    • Pay the lost item replacement fee.
  • If you do not return a study room key you must pay the replacement fee and you will lose key checkout privileges for the rest of the semester.
  • Lost item fees, etc. for items owned by other LACCD libraries must be paid at the campus owning the item you lost.
  • If you damage an item you will be charged for repair or replacement.

Lost Keys

  • Students who do not return keys must pay the replacement fee and will lose key checkout privileges for the rest of the semester.

Late Keys or any other violation of room policy 

  • After 3 study room policy violations are documented in their account, students lose key checkout privileges for the rest of the semester.
  • Violations include
    • Key returned after 10-minute grace period is over
    • Warnings from a Library employee (documented on the student's account) about violations of college, Library, or room policy such as
