Whether you need to check out a textbook, find a quiet place to read or a private room to study with a group, use computers and printers, or read fun math-related books, your Library is here to help you succeed!
Need some extra practice outside of your regular class assignments? PrepSTEP is a Library database containing problem sets (with answers) and explanations. It's available to you online anytime, on or off campus!
Most Library databases require one login if you're connecting from off campus (For directions on how to log in, click here and then scroll down to Step 3.) PrepSTEP requires two. The first time you use PrepSTEP, you must register and create a PrepSTEP account. (For instructions, go to PrepSTEP > Help (upper right) > Video Guides > Registering as a New User.)
Once you're logged into PrepSTEP, click on "College Library" (near the top right). Then, go to Core Math and Science Skills Review.
There, you can choose from Developmental Math, Algebra, Geometry, Introductory Statistics and Probability, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
For each of these subject areas, you'll have access to a variety of self-study resources, including practice sets (problem sets with answers and explanations), tutorials (problem sets and answers, in a more guided, linear explanatory format), ebooks, and flashcards.
Lots of free tutoring is available for LAVC students!
In person, you can visit the Math Lab in LARC 226 (upstairs). Meet with a tutor, use their computer lab, or just hang out and study. Click here to see when the Math Lab is open and to read about what they offer. On the main website for the LAVC Academic Resource Center (ARC), you can also find the hours for Math Lab and other tutoring services ("Tutoring Schedule"), and a list of math workshops offered throughout the semester ("Math Workshop schedule").
For statistics, you'll want to head over to the General Tutoring Center in LARC 213 (upstairs). Click here to see when General Tutoring is open and to read about what they offer. To see when statistics tutors are available, click on the link for the schedule for the current semester.
Online, use NetTutor to connect with tutors in math, statistics, and many other subjects through Canvas! Click here for instructions on where and how to find this awesome service. There are two sets of instructions, because some subjects (including math and statistics) offer unlimited, free access for LAVC students!

The Library has many math textbooks. Current textbooks are in Reserves (2-hour checkout, use inside the Library). Older textbooks might be available for longer checkouts (ok to take home).
To see if we have your textbook, ask a librarian or use OneSearch (on the Library homepage).
Also remember: Textbooks may be available to borrow from the Math Lab, upstairs from the Library (LARC 226).
